Too Good to be True Gift Cards

Where and When:

Arizona 2010

I’m so frustrated that I lost $260 to a website selling gift cards that seemed too good to be true. I should have gone with my gut on this one. The website was offering gift cards to places I shop frequently at 8-22% off of the face value. I wanted to buy some discounted gift cards to places I shop at often (grocery store, dry cleaners, etc) so that I could take advantage of the sweet discounts. I paid online with my debit card but never received my gift cards in the mail. When I went back to the site to check on the status of my order, the site had been removed and the money had already been withdrawn from my account. I am still to this day working with my bank to file for a fraudulent transaction, in hopes of replacing the money soon.

Bottom Line:

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Always check the source of the site before submitting payment.
