How do I stop receiving marketing offers by telephone?

Question:

How do I stop receiving marketing offers by telephone and have them delivered by mail?

Answer:

In order to stop receiving unsolicited marketing offers by phone you can simply register with the U.S. Federal Government’s National Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov.

However, if you want those solicitations delivered by mail, you would have to register with the Direct Marketing Association at www.dmachoice.org. Here, you can register to either stop or receive mailed in solicitations from specific companies.

In addition to that, most people also want to know how to limit the amount of prescreened solicitations they get from credit card and insurance companies; one can do this by visiting www.optoutprescreen.com.  On this site, you have the option of preventing these unsolicited offers for five years or permanently.

These services listed above only work to an extent, especially with the do not call service; fraudulent calls might still get through. Thus, as a general rule of thumb, don’t give your information over the phone to telemarketers that are fishing for it.
